Absolut Tabasco Spices Up Cocktails In Volcanic New Campaign

Absolut is bringing on the heat with its latest collaboration.

The vodka brand has partnered with hot sauce maker Tabasco to release the new, spicy Absolut Tabasco.

Available across the U.S. and in over 50 global markets, the zesty vodka is made by fusing Absolut with a “unique and completely natural essence created from the fermented, aged red pepper mash,” which is used to make Tabasco. The finished vodka has no added sugar and remains gluten-free.

“Absolut has never been afraid to mix things up or shy away from bold moves and flavor,” said Caroline Begley, U.S. vice president of marketing for Absolut, in a release. “We're proud to partner with another icon and one of the world's leading hot sauce brands to add a spicy kick to both classic and trending vodka cocktails.”

A new campaign from Wieden + Kennedy London supports the chili pepper vodka launch, which the brand says is inspired by its classic witty print ads that were popular in the 1980s and 1990s.

A :45 spot, seen here, shows a group of silver-hazmat-suited men arriving via helicopter on top of an active fire-spewing volcano. As Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side” plays in the background, the men make their way toward the erupting action. Suddenly what appears to be molten lava shoots out of the volcano, landing in cocktail glasses held by the men, which is then revealed to actually be comprised of Bloody Marys. The men proceed to dine and toast one another while perched on the side of the Bloody Mary volcano.

The spot was shot on location south of Reykjavík, Iceland, with actual volcanic visuals.
