Facebook Marketplace Sales Now Aided By Meta AI

In its mission to accelerate in-app processes via artificial intelligence (AI), Meta has announced the introduction of new AI-powered features on Facebook Marketplace, pushing sellers to rely more heavily on the company's AI assistant when listing products, communicating with buyers, and making sales.

According to Meta, sellers on the social media marketplace can now upload their item images and let Meta AI draft automatic listing drafts. The AI assistant will provide details originally filled in by the seller, as well as suggest a price based on similar items listed in the seller's geographic location.

To reach more buyers, Meta AI can also be instructed to offer shipping on a seller's product listings, while also generating prepaid shipping labels. Facebook Marketplace will also feature a dashboard for sellers to keep track of their shipping order history.

When buyers ask about item availability, sellers can now rely on Meta AI-issued auto replies.

“You can use Meta AI to draft and send an auto reply using information from your listing like a description, availability, pickup location, and price,” Meta's announcement explains. “You can enable, preview, and edit these auto replies during listing creation.”

In addition, an overview of a seller's Facebook profile will now be displayed at the top of their Marketplace profile as an attempt to improve transparency.

This new feature will allow buyers to see how long a seller has been on the platform, how many friends they have and a brief summary of their Marketplace activity via listing history, item categorization, and a seller rating.

Meta AI was first integrated into Marketplace last year via AI-powered insights and question prompts for interested buyers to ask prior to completing a purchase.

Shortly after bringing its AI assistant to Marketplace, Meta redesigned Facebook's home feed to prioritize younger audiences, placing Marketplace “front-and-center” in the tab bar alongside Reels, Friends, and Profile hubs, making it more accessible upon opening the app.

Facebook Marketplace is currently used by one in four young adult daily active Facebook users across North America, with over 3.5 million listings posted daily in the region.
