From Zero To $75 Million Gross Revenue Today, Origin Turns 7

Seven years ago a couple of EW Scripps alums—Fred Godfrey and Stephen Strong-- founded a CTV specialist ad agency called Origin, based in New York.

Back then CTV was a growing $7 billion business. Now it’s a booming $50 billion business give or take and one of the fastest growing ad segments.

Origin has prospered in that time as well, growing from zero dollars in gross revenue to $75 million today.

As the agency noted in a missive celebrating the anniversary, the founders started with $30,000 of their own money "and since inception has taken zero funding. No venture capital. No friends and family handouts. No safety net. Origin had to feed itself.”

According to the agency, the year it was founded the industry was “getting better at finding the right household. But, it was not getting better at knowing how to get a viewer’s attention or knowing what to say once it got there.”

The agency set out to close that gap and to give media agencies, planning teams and brands “a set of creative levers that could work hand-in-hand with more sophisticated targeting, while still fitting within their workflows.”

In total, the shop states, “In total, we are celebrating more than 150 successful client campaigns across retail, travel, CPG, auto, financial services, medical, entertainment, and apparel - and a laundry list of client success stories to back it up.”
