Following its recent livestream studio launch, X is furthering its efforts to encourage and
proliferate more original creator-made videos on the app with a new video editor and recording user interface for iOS users.
According to an X post from product head Nikita Bier, the app's new video editor includes automated captioning across multiple languages and customizable
aesthetics, as well as a green screen feature, allowing creators to add custom backgrounds based on posts and photos from their camera rolls.
Bier adds that rolling out new video creation
tools remains one of X's “biggest priorities” right now, with “more updates coming to the video editor in the coming weeks.”

The influx of X's video editing
capabilities comes days after the social media platform announced an in-app
studio designed for creator-driven livestreams, as well as a $1 million payout fund for streamers.
X's attempts to encourage creators to heighten their output of original video content
aligns with recent algorithmic changes made by Meta to prioritize original
content over reposts.
In response to user concerns, Bier also writes on X that video posts “make up close to half the
impressions on X,” but that a lot of these popular videos are stolen from other users.
“Our team believes this recycled content has a negative impact on the user experience and the
business,” Bier adds, offering a vague note on how the algorithm may also prioritize original videos over reposted content, similar to Meta.
X embraced a “video-first”
creator approach to its platform in 2024, when former CEO Linda Yaccarino and platform owner Elon Musk attempted to rival social video apps like TikTok and YouTube by onboarding original video series
and livestreaming capabilities, none of which have made a notable impact on viewership, brand partnerships, or creator output.
Despite issues surrounding its previous video strategies and
functionality, the launch of X's Live Studio and Video Editor features ultimately show the platform attempting to rebuild its video ecosystem for both creators and brands.
