Keep Your Brand Close: Don't Let AI Hurt Your Image

There are now several AI tools that almost make it sound like you don’t even have to get out of bed in the morning to do any work.

Take those that claim to protect brands using AI-generated content. For instance, Stensul recently debuted a platform that it says can govern email campaign content as it is created.

Then there is the offering introduced on Wednesday by the type-and-technology firm Monotype. The Monotype Enterprise MCP Connector is designed to help Monotype Fonts customers by bringing font governance directly into AI-assisted workflows.

Both of these products sound promising. But why should anyone need this help?

Monotype argues on its site that fonts tend to be “scattered across drives, inboxes, and tools with no clear source of truth. Teams waste time searching, duplicating assets, and second-guessing what’s licensed or approved.”

The connector, which is designed to combat those issues, now supports Claude and Claude Design, and will soon cover ChatGPT.

How does it work? Monotype advises you to start projects using brand guidelines. It promises that the AI tool will automatically reference the Connector to select the fonts that should be used.

The firm says the Connector reduces manual review—that brand and licensing checks happen earlier in the process.

Here’s the issue: You cannot rely on a governance engine alone to protect your brand—at least not without human supervision.

Having seen world-class typos in publishing, this reporter knows all too well that everything has to be reviewed by human eyes, preferably by several pairs. The same is true when insuring that copy and fonts live to brand standards—not that it is acceptable to use AI to generate editorial copy.

That aside, content creators of all sorts need automated solutions to streamline their workflows and protect their brand integrity.

Let’s give Monotype the last word.

“Enterprise customers are faced with the challenge of looking for practical ways to adopt AI without compromising the consistency and value of their brands,” says Kristin Ratzlaff, vice president of global agencies & partnerships at Monotype, in a statement.

Ratzlaff adds that the Enterprise Connector “brings Monotype’s typography and font governance to the place where modern teams are already creating — helping them move faster while staying aligned with the standards their brands rely on.”
