Rich Feldman is Chief Marketing Officer at PrimaHealth Credit, a growing fintech company based in Newport CA, and Captain of LandThePlane, a behavior-based strategy and creative concept consultancy serving clients in financial services, data/technology, pharmaceutical and subscription-based services. Prior positions include Managing Partner, Chief Strategy Officer at Doner CX, an MDC Partners company, where he led the CRM, analytics, digital media and other strategic areas of the business. Part of Detroit-based advertising agency Doner, Rich was the architect of programs for many of the world’s leading brands, including AARP, ADT, Alcon, American Express, Erie Insurance, ESPN, HSBC, JP Morgan Chase, Panasonic, Pfizer, Philips, Rosetta Stone, and Verizon. He is also credited with launching the strategic consulting practice for Brann Worldwide (now Havas) – which, at the time, was the largest direct marketing agency in the world – where he served as Executive Director. Other stops in his career include senior/executive creative director roles at Blau Marketing Technologies and Y&R/Chapman. Rich is author of Deconstructing Creative Strategy (2008, Association of National Advertisers), lectures on strategy at the New York University Master’s Program in Marketing, and an advisory board member at Western Connecticut University’s Ancell School of Business.     I think the point of the piece is that, yes, the number of merchants for which catalogs function as a primary selling vehicle is declining, but are alive and well as a components of a strategic channel plan.  As for your experience with catalogs you are, as they say, an N of 1. I get no fewer than 3 a day, and sometimes as many as 7 or 8. And the reason is simple: there's someone in my house who orders from them -- albeit online. Same as it ever was.
