• EBay Adds Product-Finding Feature, 'Interests'
    EBay just debuted Interests, a feature designed to help people find products that match their personal interests. “Interests is designed to take advantage of the site’s unique inventory from smaller merchants, such as antiques, niche collectibles, and designer clothing items that are unavailable on rival sites such as Amazon,” Fast Company reports.
  • Trump Administration Cuts Key Cyber Policy Position
    The White House just did away with its top cyber policy role, “jettisoning a key position created during the Obama presidency to harmonize the government's overall approach to cybersecurity policy and digital warfare,” Politico reports. “The decision is part of an effort to ‘streamline authority’ for the senior directors who lead most NSC teams,” it writes, citing an email sent to National Security Council staffers.
  • Tencent Boasts Big Q1 Earnings
    Thanks largely to a thriving games business, Chinese tech giant Tencent just posted impressive first-quarter earnings. “The gaming business boosted Tencent’s revenues in the quarter,” CNBC writes. “Smartphone games revenues alone were up 68 percent year-on-year to 21.7 billion yuan, thanks to titles such as ‘Honour of Kings.’"
  • Instagram Planning 'Time Spent' Feature
    Instagram plans to let users see just how much time they spend on the app, TechCrunch reports. “Code buried in Instagram’s Android app reveals a ‘Usage Insights’ feature that will show users their ‘time spent,’” it reports. “It’s not exactly clear whether that will be your total time spent in Instagram ever, which could be a pretty scary number to some users, or within some shorter time frame like a day, week, or month.”  
  • Apple News Fully Embraces DoubleClick
    Following tests, Apple News is inviting all publishers to use DoubleClick. “DoubleClick can now be used to serve traditional banner ads on Apple News, including animated GIF ads, but it can’t yet be used to serve HTML5-based ads or pre-roll video ads in the app,” MacRumors reports.  
  • WhatsApp Adds Group-Chat Features
    WhatsApp just added some new group-chat features. They include “more controls for administrators as well as regular group members,” Reuters reports. For example, “Users can now leave a group permanently to avoid being repeatedly added back after they have left,” it notes.
  • Facebook Bows 'Youth Portal'
    Facebook is rolling out a “Youth Portal” to better reach younger users. As The Verge reports: “In addition to very hip explanations of ‘how to get the most out of products like Pages, Groups, Events, and Profile, while staying safe,’ the portal will also offer security tips, advice about the internet, as well as first-person accounts from fellow teens around the world about tech.”
  • Facebook Spending Hundreds Of Millions On Content Reviewers
    Facebook is spending hundreds of millions of dollars on teams of content reviewers -- which is considerably more than in previous years -- sources tell The Wall Street Journal. The company is apparently “pouring cash into content review after high-profile failures that have hurt its image,” The Journal writes.  
  • Tim Cook Tells Trump To Solve DACA Dilemma
    Apple CEO Tim Cook tells Bloomberg Television that he recently urged president Trump to solve the DACA immigration dilemma, and suggested that tariffs should not be used to negotiate with China. “Cook said his message to Trump focused on the importance of trade and how cooperation between two countries can boost the economy more than nations acting alone,” Bloomberg writes.  
  • Video Conferencing Startup Fuze Gets $150M
    Messaging and video conferencing startup Fuze just raised another $150 million from Summit Partners and other investors. “But that financing happened at about a $400 million valuation, including the new capital,” Recode reports, citing a fundraising document. “Fuze’s last round of financing last spring made the company worth about $765 million including the new money.”
