Ma said after the meeting the United States’ relationship with China "should be strengthened, should be more friendly and do better." On Sunday, Secretary Clinton, President Bill Clinton and their daughter Chelsea attended a matinee showing of "The Color Purple," whereupon entering the theater they received a standing ovation and cheers from the crowd. The scene was very different from when vice-president elect Mike Pence attended "Hamilton" in November and was politely asked from the stage to endorse more social compassion.

Trump has asked Congress to foot the bill for building a wall on the Southern border, estimated at a cost of $8 billion to $10 billion, saying Mexico will reimburse the U.S. for it. Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto has said Mexico will not pay for such a wall, leaving it unclear as to how Trump will pull off one of his major campaign promises.
