'Rookie' Show Beats Veterans

ABC's

Finally, one network -- ABC -- had something to cheer about with a rookie summer show: "Rookie Blue."

The show earned a Nielsen preliminary 2.0 rating/6 share among 18-49 viewers on Thursday night -- the only new show, scripted or otherwise, to garner a least 2 ratings points so far.

"Blue" ran in a primo 9 p.m. time period, right against Fox's big summer show "So You Think You Can Dance?" which won the time period with a 2.4/7. "Dance" improved a bit from the week before, due to the absence of the game seven of ABC's "NBA Finals" a week ago, which upset every network's schedule.

"Wipeout" helped out the "Blue" situation -- which, at 8 p.m., led into the show with a 2.6/9 -- the best-rated program of the night. On the downside, "Wipeout" was down nearly 20% from its week ago Tuesday premiere.

When ABC might have been happy earlier in the evening, it was brought back to earth at 10 p.m. Its documentary "Boston Med" achieved more normal results for a new show this summer, coming in with an unspectacular 1.3/4.< p> The only other original came with NBC's "100 Questions," earning a low 0.6/2.

No network earned above an average 2 rating mark for 18-49 viewers. ABC led the way with a 1.9/6; Fox was right behind with a 1.8/6; Univision took a 1.7/6; CBS earned a 1.4/5; NBC scored a 0.8/3; and the CW had a 0.4/2.
