Super Bowl Sex Divide: Men Remember Game, Women Ads

Superbowl-LogoWomen and men see the Super Bowl a bit differently -- looking at all the Super Bowl content, commercials and the game itself.

A poll from Women at NBCU, part of NBC Universal's Integrated Media group, says most women  -- 58%  -- were more likely to remember the commercials. Not surprisingly, this compares to 66% of men who have stronger memories of the game.

Overall, women gave slightly higher marks to Super Bowl commercials than men -- a 7.5 number -- on a 10-point scale, compared to a 6.5 number for men.

But NBC said that overall, men and women just seem to be common TV consumers when responding to Super Bowl commercials.

When women and men were asked which ads they favored, four out of five ads -- 80% -- were the same when looking at their respective overall top 5 commercials. This finding may speak to how successfully well-balanced marketing messages performed in targeting a dual audience

NBC says research points to two common attractions of the usual Super Bowl commercial fodder: animals and Americana.

By way of comparison, the NBC group says 88% of women and 87% of men are more likely to remember Super Bowl ads than fashions from the Oscars.
