Block-Verk Leaves PromaxBDA For Shazam

Television’s marketing association, PromaxBDA, will have a new leader -- as Jonathan Block-Verk will be leaving to take a position at second-screen service Shazam.

Block-Verk had been president/chief executive officer of PromaxBDA for the last six years. During that time, he launched the Station Summit and Sports Media Marketing Summit. He also increased the association’s efforts in Europe and Latin America.

At Shazam he will take the role of executive vp of strategic partnerships and head of television. Shazam's core business is to identify songs by "listening" to the music, then matching what it hears with a vast database collection of songs. More recently, Shazam connects people to TV shows, brands, and music through various interactive activities.

Block-Verk will be responsible for developing business relationships with cable and broadcast, programming companies as well as multichannel video programming distributors.

The search for a successor to Block-Verk at PromaxBDA is underway, according to a joint email from Lisa Gregorian, executive vp/chief marketing officer of Warner Bros. TV Group and Joe Earley, chief operating officer of Fox Broadcasting, who are co-chairs of PromaxBDA's board of directors.
