CBS, United Fly New 'Better Seats' Campaign

Looking to help launch a new comedy, CBS has struck a deal with United Airlines for “Friends with Better Lives.”

The campaign, called “Friends with Better Seats,” will focus on flights from New York’s JFK airport to Los Angeles’ LAX to promote the network’s new comedy series, which premieres March 31 and will regularly run in the 8:30 p.m. time slot on Mondays.

On specific flights, some passengers will get a surprise upgrade to business first class -- a first for a United Airlines promotion. On all Premium Service flights, passengers will receive their own “Friends with Better Lives” -- branded earphones to retain for future flights.

The comedy is about six friends at different stages in their lives — married, divorced, newly engaged and single -- who are outwardly happy, but secretly questioning if their friends have it better.

For about a decade, from around 1999 to 2009, CBS had an ongoing major TV promotional deal with American Airlines. In 2009, American Airlines struck a TV promotional deal with NBCUniversal.
