Sherman Succeeds Ruhanen As Omnicom's 'Neck To Choke' For Big Clients

Peter Sherman, executive vice president at Omnicom, will assume Troy Ruhanen's former position and responsibility for driving innovation and cross-agency collaboration for the company's largest clients effective immediately, the holding company said late Monday.

Earlier this month, Ruhanen was appointed President and CEO of TBWA Worldwide, succeeding Tom Carroll who will continue as Chairman of the TBWA Group.

In March, less than a year after departing Omnicom’s BBDO for WPP’s JWT to serve as CEO North America, Sherman returned to Omnicom as an EVP.  At the time Omnicom said Sherman would lead a series of “major initiatives” that include “driving innovation and collaboration across the holding company’s portfolio.”

In his new role, Sherman will continue to report directly to Omnicom CEO John Wren.

"Cross-agency and discipline collaboration is 'the new normal' for many, if not most, of our large multinational clients," said Wren. "Peter's knowledge of Omnicom and his experience managing some of BBDO's largest clients in multiple categories makes this a seamless leadership transition."

Prior to joining JWT, Sherman spent over a decade at Omnicom's BBDO.  He was EVP, Managing Director, of BBDO Europe where he led 35 BBDO offices in 18 countries across the European region.  Before moving to Europe, Sherman was managing director of BBDO West in San Francisco for nearly five years.  He had previously worked at BBDO New York for eight years, rising to EVP, Senior Account Director.
