You're Too Late. Someone Has Already Hired 'Apparently Kid' For An Ad

Oh - you totally wish you had done this first. Come on. Admit it. By now, you've heard of the "Apparently Kid," right? He was the five-year-old who became famous last month for a TV interview he did during which he said the word "apparently" over and over. Perhaps you just saw him on "The Ellen Show," during which he said he was over the word "apparently" and has moved on to "seriously." Anyway, pet food brand Freshpet working with Shareability, wanted to get in on the meme-worthy action and hired the kid, Noah Ritter, to ad lib a commercial for the brand. And while he may be over the word "apparently," the ad is filled with his signature utterance. Check out the commercial here. And wish you had snagged the kid for yourself. But don't go for it now. Because you'll just be seen as copycat.

Are you feeling philanthropic? Maybe feeling a bit like you're in need of a little exercise? Then Fireflies West is for you. The event, held annually to benefit cancer research at the City of Hope Hospital, is a 6-day, 550-mile cycling event. It's self-funded and all of the proceeds go to the hospital. The riders will depart San Francisco with a send-off breakfast at Goodby Silverstein & Partners on September 19th and arrive in Los Angeles on September 24th. To get involved and donate, check out their Web site here.

And so it would seem Monica Lewinsky jokes never get old. But they will get you into trouble. Especially if you slap one on a billboard. Which is exactly what Australian firm Coral Sea Property Management did, much to the chagrin of the Real Estate Institute of Queensland which stripped the agency of its accreditation. The billboard in question features an image of Lewinsky with copy that reads: “Last agent leave a bad taste in your mouth?” Ouch. CSPM Principal Shaun Podbury claims they weren't trying to be offensive and were simply trying to provoke a strong reaction. Looks like they got it.

Either this is one more sign agencies are screwed or it's the first time a brand has finally acknowledged that ad agency people just might know what they’re talking about. General Mills has created a new internal position, chief creative officer, and hired former Fallon Chief Strategy Officer Michael Fanuele to fill the role. Of the hire, General Mills CMO Mark Addicks said, "A great creative idea strategically communicated to the right audience at the right time and place is critical to success in today's dynamic, multi-channel world. Michael brings a wealth of experience in leading teams to do great work that delivers market growth. We believe his strategic planning and thought leadership will be powerful additions to the ways our brands connect with our consumers." Which brand will be next?
