Mountain Dew Creates Hybrid Creature For Super Bowl Spot

While remarkable cross-breeding and cloning feats are no longer  headline news, Mountain Dew and BBDO New York have given birth to a creature that's bound to stand out even amid the Super Bowl's array of out-there ads.

The PepsiCo brand is returning to the Super Bowl after a 16-year absence with a 30-second ad for the Mtn Dew Kickstart Line that stars a dancing "Puppymonkeybaby.”

The bizarre creation references the point, clearly stated at the ad's end, that Kickstart is a fusion of three ingredients: Mountain Dew soda, juice and caffeine.

But it's also a sly nod to the three types of life forms that have become clichés in Super Bowl ads, thanks to their undeniable audience appeal.

The brand is literally back in the game as part of a campaign to promote four new flavors for Kickstart. That brings the flavor count to 10 — up from two when Kickstart was launched in 2013.

The expansion reflects the success of the brand extension. PepsiCo has stated that, with more than $300 million in annual sales, Kickstart is one of its most successful beverage launches in a decade.
