Google Wins Grand Prix For Product Design

Google Creative Labs London won the Grand Prix for Product Design at Cannes for its “Project Jacquard,” a process that enables touch and gesture interactivity to be woven into textiles using standard industrial looms.

The process can transform everyday objects such as clothes and furniture into interactive surfaces with the application of conductive yarns that combine thin metallic alloys with natural and synthetic yarns such as cotton, polyester or silk making the yarn strong enough to be woven on any industrial loom..

"To a product designer, material is everything and Jacquard allows us to dream up solutions in nearly every segment of our industry, from medical design to furniture and even social and environmental sustainability," said Jury President, Amina Horozic, Lead Industrial Designer, fuseproject.

A record-breaking 540 entries were received for Product Design and 11 Lions were awarded.
