Uber Partners With Pandora To Offer Drivers Streaming Service

Uber and Pandora have partnered to bring the Internet radio service to Uber’s drivers, as opposed to its riders, like the ridesharing company’s partnership with Spotify. Uber’s relationship with Spotify is reportedly on hold.

The move is designed to attract and retain drivers in Uber’s pool, as ride-sharing services battle over a small pool of potential chauffeurs.

Pandora’s music will be accessible through the Uber app, so drivers don’t have to navigate multiple apps while driving to choose or skip songs.

“Many drivers already use music to get their day started on the right note, but it can be challenging to find high quality music that both drivers and riders love—without radio ads and interruptions to the music,” stated Bob Cowherd, senior product manager for music and media at Uber.

According to a blog post on Uber’s site, the service will be ad-free for the first six months. Uber is also offering aux cords for drivers so they can take advantage of the service.

Pandora could certainly use the boost.

The company has been trying to find a way to build its user base and compete with Spotify and iTunes. It has stated that it is building an on-demand service. Currently, the platform is a radio-streaming service that, as an older Internet property, has mostly older users (29 and older).

As of today, the app is supported on both iOS and Android.
