GIRLTALK HQ, a site that aggregates news about
global female empowerment topics, launched an eye-opening campaign to push for gender equality in the marketplace with a petition aimed at removing the "
Pink Tax" in Canada.
According to a recent study, Canadian women pay an average of 43% more than men for comparable products and services,
which can add up to almost $2,000 per year.
GIRLTALK HQ partnered with a local Toronto coffee shop and charged women more than men for a cup of coffee. This did not go over well, especially
when seeing the prices for a man's cup coffee compared to a woman's on the menu board. No one would pay the exorbitant prices -- nor should they.
