New technology to impact how drivers interact with their cars is being introduced at CES in January.

Alps Electric announced it will launch an input device based on technology that enables gesture and touch input and control of systems around the driver.

The device will allow input, such as selection of menu options, without requiring direct contact with the touch panel, according to the company.

The device can be integrated with natural materials, such as leather and wood, taking advantage of its sensitivity and accuracy.

Alps Electric provides force feedback technology that recreates the feel of objects, including sensing finger movements within virtual reality.
