Sigfox IoT Network Targets 6 Million Device Connections This Year

Sigfox, the two-year-old French startup creating a network of Internet of Things devices, is projecting it will have connected 6 million objects by the end of this year.

The company expanded its network to 45 countries and its network of connected devices grew 65% to 3 million, according to a presentation of its 2017 results and a 2018 roadmap. The Sigfox network now reaches 800 million people worldwide.

Revenue increased more than 56% since last year, according to the company.

“There is tremendous value in IoT, which lies in the data that is generated by millions of connected objects across the globe,” stated Ludovic Le Moan, co-founder and CEO of Sigfox. “It's up to us to turn this golden opportunity into a multi-billion-dollar industry, just like we did with petrol a century ago. Our challenge for the next few years will be to lower the cost of collecting that data to close to zero.”

Sigfox intends to grow its IoT network to 60 countries and 1 billion people this year.

Amazon has partnered with Sigfox so that devices can be connected to Amazon’s cloud service through the Sigfox network.
