Kroger Plans Grocery Deliveries In Self-Driving Vehicles

The Kroger Company is partnering with Nuro to launch on-road, fully autonomous vehicles to deliver groceries.

Customers will be able to place same-day delivery orders through Kroger’s ordering system and Nuro’s app and during the test, orders will be delivered by Nuro’s fleet of self-driving vehicles.

This will be the first deployment of Nuro’s hardware and software in the pilot planned to start in the fall in a market still to be announced. Kroger has stores in 35 states.

"We are incredibly excited about the potential of our innovative partnership with Nuro to bring the future of grocery delivery to customers today," stated Yael Cosset, Kroger's chief digital officer. "As part of Restock Kroger, we have already started to redefine the grocery customer experience and expand the coverage area for our anything, anytime and anywhere offering. Partnering with Nuro, a leading technology company, will create customer value by providing Americans access to fast and convenient delivery at a fair price."

And what about the element of thieves in society who will attack an"unmanned vehicle" and rip-off the groceries??? Back in the early 1900's-1940's , stores always had delivery: Milk, cleaners, bakeries, Ice, clothing, florists etc, the difference.....it provided jobs, personal interaction....................not friggin robots.

So we spend all this money (No one ever talks about costs of the vehicle) and build a self propelled grocery-getter to be autonomous, and we still have to have a human make sure it works ???? Someone will have a "HY-Jack" APP to follow all the to-go-bots and take home some Cheerios and Almond milk , but dump the Guda Cheese.
