Amazon Opens Third Cashierless Convenience Store

Amazon has opened its third Amazon Go store that allows shoppers to select items and bypass checkout lines.

The new store is located in downtown Seattle, home of the other two Amazon Go stores.

Amazon’s ‘just walk out’ technology, which uses computer vision, sensor fusion and deep learning, detects when products are removed and returned to shelves and tracked in a virtual cart.

Shoppers use the Amazon Go app as they enter the store and the customer’s Amazon account is charged, with a receipt sent to the app after the customer leaves the store.

Other retailers also are working on various forms of automated checkout. For example, Ricker’s is launching a hybrid of mobile pay and Amazon Go in 58 of its convenience stores and a mini-mart called Zippin is testing an automated checkout system.
