Walmart Adds To In-Store Tech, Intros Self-Driving Floor Cleaners

Continuing its deployments of in-store technology, Walmart is introducing a self-driving machine to clean and polish floors.

The Auto-C (autonomous cleaner) uses assisted autonomy to clean store floors, rather than an employee riding on and driving the scrub machine, according to a Walmart blog post and as portrayed in a Walmart video.

The self-driving machine is in 78 stores already and soon moving into another 360 locations.

Walmart has been adding high-tech devices into its stores over the past year.

The retailer recently announced it was sending to its stores 17,000 virtual reality headsets to be used for employee training, launched a pilot to use automation technology to deliver items to associates and introduced shelf-scanning robots that use artificial intelligence to track inventory in 50 stores.
