Fox News OTT Network Fox Nation To Launch Nov. 27

Fox News Channel’s subscription streaming video service, Fox Nation, will launch November 27. It will cost $5.99 per month or $64.99 per year, the channel says.

Fox Nation was announced in February as a streaming service for the channel’s “super-fans,” built around conservative opinion content. The company began promoting it around the start of NFL season on Fox “Thursday Night Football” broadcasts.

Fox has since announced a lineup of short- and long-form programming that includes shows hosted by Fox News anchors and contributors like Laura Ingraham, Dana Perino, Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson and Tomi Lahren.

The schedule is designed to have as little overlap with the Fox News TV schedule as possible, with opinion shows airing largely outside of prime time, when the TV channel is opinion-focused.

Fox News senior vice president, development and production John Finley stated that Fox Nation is designed to “complement and enhance” the channel’s programming.

Fox Nation will launch without advertising, although when it was first announced, executives left open the possibility that sponsorship or ad revenue could be added to the service down the line.

The service joins an increasingly crowded landscape for streaming news services, although it takes a different approach from competitors like CBSN, Cheddar and the upcoming NBC News Signal on a number of fronts.

First, Fox is focusing exclusively on opinion shows and long-form documentary-style programming rather than news. In addition, all of those services are widely available for free to consumers; their business model built around advertising.

Fox Nation is hoping to monetize primarily through paid subscriptions.

To help encourage those subscriptions, Fox Nation will hold a “presale” starting October 28, giving early subscribers special gifts and “Fox Nation Founder” status for paying yearly to multi-year subscriptions in advance. Depending on which package they buy, consumers will receive “Fox Nation Founder Challenge Coins,” hats, rocks glasses, or even a Fox Nation founder medal or tactical watch.
