Number Of Amazon Alexa Skills Up 120% In A Year

The number of Amazon Alexa skills in the U.S. more than doubled in a year, according to a new report by Voicebot.

The number of Alexa skills in the U.S. increased from 26,000 at the beginning of 2018 to 57,000 at the beginning of 2019, reflecting a 120% growth.

Growth of Alexa skills in the U.K. reached 233% to 30,000 skills and 152% in Germany to 8,000 skills. Australia and Canada both have 23,000 Alexa skills about a year since launching in those markets.

“Amazon makes it easy for developers to publish in other languages and it can be a default for English language Alexa skills to publish in other English-language countries automatically,” stated the report.  “That means new Alexa skills made originally in the U.S. or U.K. are often immediately available in Australia, Canada and India.”

The skills with the largest growth by number of users are those promoted by Amazon and tend to be better-designed user experiences, according to Voicebot.
