Kroger Intros Own Mobile Payment System

The Kroger Co. is launching its own mobile payment system providing shoppers with a single-use QR code on their phone for checkout.

The new Kroger Pay rewards customers who use a payment option from the Kroger family of cards by allowing them to earn fuel points and grocery rewards with a single scan.

"Kroger Pay is one of the few mobile wallets that pairs loyalty and payment," stated Mary Ellen Adcock, group vice president of operations. "The application of this technology is another step in our front-end experience transformation."

Kroger Pay, available on iOS and Android devices, recently launched in the retailer’s Columbus, Ohio, division and is being introduced to 10 additional markets in the spring and nationwide later in the year.

To use Kroger Pay, customers enter their PIN or biometrics and the QR code generated includes payment and loyalty card information along with digital coupons and personalized offers.
