Winery Launches 'Freakshow' AR App

Michael David Winery is introducing an interactive face filter app called “Freakshow Maskerade.”

The filter uses augmented reality, allowing a user to become their favorite character from the Freakshow wine brand and enter to win a way onto the actual wine label.

The app includes six face-changing characters with three additional characters that can be unlocked by scanning Freakshow wine bottles.

Sharing the faces on Instagram and Facebook enters the user into a chance to win a weekly swag pack, according to the company.

"While augmented reality has made its place in the wine industry, we wanted to use this technology to give consumers a fun, interactive experience that connects them to the brand and wine they're drinking," stated Melissa Phillips Stroud, vice president of sales and marketing for Michael David Winery. "What better way to do that than making them part of the label?"
