7-Eleven Intros 'Pokemon' AR Experience For Movie Promo

To promote the theatrical release of the movie "Pokémon Detective Pikachu," 7-Eleven is introducing a new interactive augmented reality experience.

Dozens of movie-themed products, shareable photo filters and AR experiences are arriving at 7-Eleven stores.

The retailer is also offering $1 drink deals for a limited time in advance of the May 10 nationwide movie release.

The Ryme City Neighborhood AR app experience includes a “find the missing Pokémon” activity each week. Finding each Pokémon via the AR app unlocks offers for free products, such as a free pizza slice, mini tacos, chicken wings or hot beverages.

“'Pokémon Detective Pikachu' is a great entertainment tie-in for 7-Eleven because it appeals to so many of our customers,” stated Tarang Sethia, 7-Eleven vice president of digital customer experience.

"Millennials, who played the original videogame 20 years ago, are parents now and can enjoy the Pokémon phenomenon all over again with their kids. The entire Pokémon franchise launched as a video game, making it the perfect vehicle to create experiences that maximize the new and growing AR capabilities in the 7-Eleven app.”
