Verizon is
looking for a buyer to take micro-blogging site Tumblr off its hands.
Tumblr has had a tough time meeting revenue goals, according to The Wall Street Journal, which first
reported the news.
Yahoo purchased Tumblr for $1.1 billion in 2013. Yahoo was bought by Verizon for $4.5 billion in 2017.
Tumblr and the Yahoo sites are part
of Verizon Media Group (formerly Oath), which also includes brands like HuffPost and TechCrunch.
BuzzFeed reports adult entertainment site Pornhub is “extremely
interested” in purchasing the blog platform. Pornhub’s vice president Corey Price told BuzzFeed he was “dismayed" with Tumblr after its controversial ban on adult content last
December.
Price hopes Pornhub can purchase Tumblr and bring back “NSFW” (“not safe for work”) content, he said.
Tumblr is a free service,
with over 400 million blogs.
The site drew nearly the same number of visitors in March 2019 on desktop and mobile, according to SimilarWeb data.
