Spirit Airlines Apologizes For Email Sent At Height Of Coronavirus Fears

Spirit Airlines has hit some bumpy weather over an email it sent on Thursday, saying “Never a Better Time to Fly.”

The email went out one day after President Trump announced a ban on European travel and as fears over COVID-19 escalated. The airline quickly apologized.

According to Fox 5, the promotional email showed a woman doing yoga and a caption saying, ““The perfect time to treat yourself? Right this minute.”

Spirit posted the following message following a Twitter outcry:

“We apologize for the email that was sent earlier today. It was written prior to the current situation and unfortunately sent. We are closely monitoring COVID-19 and taking precautions to keep our Guests & Team Members safe.”

Business Insider reports that Spirit tried to halt the email, but that 25% of the intended recipients found it in their inbox.

Fox adds that one consumer tweeted, “Y'all might want to chill with your 'Never a better time to fly' emails.’”

Business Insider quotes Spirit spokesperson Field Sutton as saying: "It was just a marketing email — created ages ago — that went out at a time it absolutely shouldn't have. Though we're in the business of selling plane tickets, we're not in the business of being disingenuous."
