Jeep Engages With Off-Road Enthusiasts

Jeep is expanding its Badge of Honor mobile app to better connect with customers who use their SUVs for off-road driving.

Resembling the Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts activity badge program, Badge of Honor was created by the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles brand in 2013 to allow 4x4 enthusiasts to conquer trails and earn trail badges for their Jeep vehicles.

Users can create a profile that allows them to share their vehicle information, post pictures of their Jeep vehicles in action on Badge of Honor trails and view a trail leaderboard. Points can be earned for photo uploads, trail check-ins and reviews.

Jeep took direct feedback from users of previous versions of the app and has added features including new trails and increased user functionality. Owners can now leave trail reviews and tips for other owners directly in the app.

The expanded program includes an array of new trails, including Northwest OHV Park in Texas, Tread Lightly! Four Wheel Drive Way in Florida and Bearwallow in West Virginia, for a total of 56 trails nationwide that includes the historic Rubicon Trail in California.

Besides the digital “badge,” users can request a “hard” badge they can display on their Jeep's bumper or keep in a scrapbook.

“The program has really taken off, and we often see Jeep vehicles with many different badges that represent conquered trails around the country,” said Jim Morrison, head of Jeep brand – FCA North America, in a release.

For Jeep owners new to off-roading, the Off-Roading 101 section of the app includes basics, safety reminders, the history of off-roading, information on dealing with different types of off-road terrain, and Jeep Trail Ratings.
