Google, Gmail Down In Huge Outage, But Quickly Restored

Google and Gmail service reportedly has been restored following a global outage early Monday morning.

Complaints to downdetector peaked around 8 a.m. ET, then quickly flattened out.

A tweet from Google Cloud blamed the outage on an “internal storage quota issue.” The outage also affected Google Docs, YouTube and Google Classroom.

The downdetector map shows that the UK and Northern Europe were heavily affected. Of the reports concerning Gmail, 80% were over log-in problems.

One user wrote:"Google services including YouTube, Gmail facing massive outage."

Another stated: "The issue was with the gmail servers which lead to outage of other google services like YouTube," and said, "Doc etc Reports says that people where able to access both of these services when they where on the incognito mode."

One person opined: “The movie "The day the Earth Stood Still" became a reality when Google went down!"

Reports came in from Kenya, Indonesia and Massachusetts that service had returned to normal.

Google stated that "All services are now restored, according to The New York Times. “We apologize to everyone affected, and we will conduct a thorough follow up review to ensure this problem cannot recur in the future.”
