Audi Enlists Musician Janelle Monae For E-tron

Audi of America is enlisting musician Janelle Monae as its latest “storyteller” in a series of ads for the all-electric Audi RS e-tron GT.

The new 60-second spot from Thjnk Hamburg GmbH aims to explain Audi’s point of view on progress — that it isn’t an “either/or” proposition.

With her unique style and bold voice, Monae aims to inspire consumers to consider a future filled with poetic, yet important contradictions; a future where progress means embracing those contradictions, according to the automaker.

The new spot builds on Monae’s earlier “A Story Of Progress,” which broke in March.

This is not Monae’s first partnership with the automaker. She performed in Los Angeles in April 2014 during the reveal of the 2015 Audi A3, along with the band M.I.A., which performed simultaneously in New York. Each were holographically inserted into each other’s performances during the event.

The ad is part of a larger global marketing campaign that taps into Audi’s tagline of “Future Is An Attitude.” Other storytellers have included Tom Hardy and Stella McCartney.

Audi defines this as seeing chances, opportunities and possibilities where others may see challenges and problems -- a relentlessly optimistic point of view that’s coded into Audi’s brand DNA, according to the automaker.

The vehicle is scheduled to go on sale this month with an MSRP of $139,000.
