WWE Gets Up Off The Mat: 2021 Revenue Spikes 12%

World Wrestling Entertainment witnessed a spike in revenue growth in 2021 -- up 12% to a record $1.1 billion, largely due to its return to producing live events, including its top events “Wrestlemania” and “SummerSlam.”

WWE was up 7% in early Friday morning trading to $51.17. Financial results were released on Thursday.

The entertainment company’s WWE Network also gained extended reach and revenue by placing its content on NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock, for its live shows, series and library programming.

Fourth-quarter results showed a 30% gain in revenues to $310.3 million, as a result of returning large-scale events, which included higher ticket and merchandise sales.

Live events during the period produced $20.1 million in revenue, versus $700,000 in the same period a year ago.

Total media revenue was up 22% to $257.6 million, partly due to higher content rights fees for TV shows “Raw” and “Smackdown” which grew to $153 million from $139.8 million.

Net income soared to $63.9 million from $13.6 million in the previous fourth-quarter period.

Advertising and sponsorship revenue coming from third-party social platforms and sponsorship fees, as well as the company’s digital websites, grew 28% to $21.1 million.
