On Thursday, head of Instagram Adam
Mosseri released a video announcing the launch of the platform's new
“Creator Lab,” a hub that aims to teach users how to grow their brands.
Videos posted by Instagram stars include tips on monetization,
safety notes, and more.
According to Mosseri, this is another move toward honoring and supporting the creator community –– a promise he made at the beginning of the year.
“Creator Lab is programming,” says Mosseri. “It’s creators sharing some of the lessons they wished they’d learned early on in their careers with all of you creators
out there.” Mosseri says this programming consists of three main categories: “finding your voice,” “building a community” and “thinking long-term.”
Featured Creator Lab videos have titles such as “Building a content strategy,” “Learning production essentials,” “Finding your why,” and
more. Breaking down and understanding Instagram’s various algorithms is a popular topic throughout many videos on the site.
Andrew Hutchinson from Social Media Today writes that Instagram's monetization systems are
more refined than its main competitor TikTok, and says the Creator Lab videos could win over creators by highlighting revenue potential on the platform.
Hutchinson believes this is what this
new initiative is all about.
In addition, the videos in the Creator Lab go beyond previous responses on Instagram’s help center, as they are now delivered directly from creators’
experiences.
