Looking for a new domain name to launch a business? Mateusz Mazurek, creator of .dotisto, has built an engine that collects and serves up information on all the available domain extensions worldwide, and then categorizes them.
The engine aggregates all domains worldwide. "The work took a total of several months in 2022," Mazurek wrote in an email to Inside Performance. "The service checks if the domain is free by using WHOIS, and records it in the DNS. It does not crawl networks and domains, but checks them on the fly during the query."
He explained that in addition to speed optimization, one of the major challenges in building this type of search engine was to collect all the available domain extensions.
Mazurek calls the free tool an “instant internet domain search engine.”
There are more than 350 million registered domain names worldwide, Mazurek estimates.

Many domains are purchased daily, but many also are not paid for by their owners and expire, becoming available for registration. Finding a free and available domain name can become a challenge.
The engine can return information on whether a domain is available for registration in under 200 milliseconds with an accuracy of about 99.975%, he wrote.
Along with the domain being checked, suggestions for other domain extensions and intelligent recommendations of other similar domains available for registration are also displayed in the next few hundred milliseconds.
The site, .dotisto, offers audible features such as pronouncing the domain name through a speech synthesizer.
It also offers a quick name search on Google, the ability to check the domain history, and to check international databases to determine whether the name is a registered trademark -- as well as an option to copy a domain name, and the ability to visit any occupied domain with a single click to see what's underneath it or check the data in the WHOIS database.
Globally, .com remains the most popular domain extension, but when looking for a new address, there are many others that can provide an avenue to stand out, Mazurek said.
In the .dotisto database there are more than 1,200 domain extensions from all over the world divided into 27 thematic categories. This includes more original domain endings such as .pizza, .online, .fit, or .studio, for example.
