Yelp Guest Manager Propped Up By Google And Toast

Yelp on Monday announced a series of integrations and features for Yelp Guest Manager to give restaurants access to the largest diner network and give front staff with more control to help run a smoother shift and turn tables faster to serve more guests.

The integrations with Toast and Reserve with Google expands front-of-house product capabilities under Yelp Guest Manager, the company said Monday.

Yelp’s partnership with Reserve with Google allows diners to reserve a table or join a waitlist with Yelp’s restaurant partners from Google Search and Maps.

The company said with its integration with Reserve with Google it now offers reservations to more than 64 million consumers compared with OpenTable, citing data from Comscore Media Metrix U.S. data in 2022.

Customers searching for a place on Google Search or Google Maps will see the option to Reserve a table, where they can then view the availability and complete a reservation.

Resy, a similar restaurant booking service owned by American Express, also integrates with Reserve with Google.

Toast’s integration with Yelp Guest Manager provides insights from the point-of-sale system. It allows restaurants to automate table status updates to better understand dining trends, and allows for integration with the rest of the restaurants technology that runs the business.

Yelp also enhanced its integration with credit card holds, advanced reservation planning, improved table and floor management and shift management improvements. Restaurants can now set credit card holds with policies for weekends, holidays or special events and set when and what customers are charged for no shows and late cancelations.

For reservations, staff are able to search for upcoming reservations using a guest’s name and phone number. With Reservation Timeline, hosts can more easily plan for upcoming reservations and accommodate both walk-ins and reservations.

Earlier this month, Yelp announced first-quarter 2023 net revenue came in at $312 million, up 13% from the first quarter of 2022, driven primarily by growth in advertising.

Advertising revenue from Restaurants, Retail & Other (RR&O) businesses increased by 10% year-over-year to $114 million -- driven by growth in average revenue per location, the company wrote in a shareholder report published earlier this month.

But compared with the first quarter of 2022, RR&O paying advertising locations fell slightly as restaurants and retailers continued to face elevated costs.

Yelp, in the letter, said it uses first-party dataset to provide seamless search and discovery experiences that help consumers find great local businesses. It leverages artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models to determine the most relevant information from our broad set of reviews to display in the highlights that appear under each business listing in the search results.
