Progyny 'Presses Play on Pause' For Menopause Benefits Push

“Press Play on Pause,” a clever play on destigmatizing the topic of menopause in the workplace, found its way onto social media during October’s Menopause Awareness Month via a campaign from Progyny.

A year ago, the fertility benefits management company added menopause care to its employer packages, and chief commercial officer Katie Higgins tells Marketing Daily that Progyny has so far “seen an overwhelmingly positive response” to the offering as employers are “starting to understand how much this impacts their employees.”

One of those employers is CPG food company Danone, which joined some dozen other Progyny partners in the October campaign that featured a series of posts on Instagram and LinkedIn in which they shared stories and steps they’ve taken to implement menopause support.

“Supporting inclusive healthcare and offering treatment for menopause aligns with Danone’s HOPE values [humanism, openness, proximity and enthusiasm],” the company’s head of benefits Urvashi Saigal explains to Marketing Daily. ““The need for menopause awareness is important as it’s a newer diagnosis in the medical field and treatment is just being introduced in the healthcare community.”

In her Linked In campaign video, Saigal said that “supporting women with menopausal symptoms is good for business, for improved employee retention and engagement, increased productivity and better employee health.”

Other campaign participants included medical device/infusion marketer B. Braun, maternal health platform Mama Glow, menopause telehealth provider Gennev, and financial services company Synchrony.

“Silence is broken when we speak up and when we design solutions that meet our needs,” said Mama Glow founder/CEO Latham Thomas in a video that launched the campaign. “Talking about your experiences empowers others to do the same.”

Four other women joining Progyny execs in the video are:  relationship and sex therapist Dr. Juliana Hauser; Ali Prato, host of the “Infertile AF” podcast; Dr. Georgia Witkin, director of psychological services and wellness at the RMA of New York fertility clinic; and Shelley Zalis, founder/CEO of The Female Quotient, a platform that advances gender equality in the workplace.

“Let’s talk menopause -- period,” says Zalis to conclude the video.
