High-fashion commercials generally don’t appeal to college football fans == a fact that quickly becomes obvious in Bud Light’s latest effort.
The brand recently released the second commercial for its college football partnership, featuring comedian Shane Gillis. The spot, seen here, shows Gillis in a dirty, graffiti-filled freeway underpass, sitting next to a what appears to be an all-black-clad fashion model wearing a live python. On his other side is a Lenny Kravitz-esque guitar player, who at one point lets out a primal scream for some unknown reason.
It doesn’t take long before Gillis, drinking a Bud Light, realizes uncomfortably he's in the wrong commercial, as he’s apparently part of one shilling cologne. So where is the hipster actor who is supposed to be in the cologne ad? Enjoying a college football game in a bar with friends, happily drinking a Bud Light.

The new spot for the continuing But Light college football efforts broke this week on Bud Light’s and Shane Gillis’ social channels, along with YouTube. The spot was also be on national TV and streaming platforms through the rest of the college football season.
The ad is part of a continuing effort from Bud Light in partnership with Gillis, who stars and co-writes the spots alongside his long-time comedy partner, John McKeever.
“As a passionate college football fan himself, Shane was the perfect partner to connect to our college football audience with his distinct style of humor. And it doesn’t hurt that he loves a Bud Light or two on gameday,” said Todd Allen, senior vice president marketing, Bud Light.
More spots are scheduled to roll out throughout the season.
As part of the college football effort, Bud Light has also released new college team packaging for the 2024 season.
