As Snapchat's “Snap Map” -- an in-app display that
gives users a sense of where someone is geographically at any given time -- becomes more popular among Gen Z, the social media company is introducing more functionality to the real-time map, including
“Home Safe,” which lets users' friends and family know when they have made it home safely.
Once users have saved their home address to the Snap Map, “Home Safe” will
send an automatic alert to a select group of users when they arrive home after being out.
Users will see the alert in their chat conversation between them and their chosen friends and
family members.
Location sharing on Snap Map is turned off by default, so users’ geographic locations are hidden until they choose to share it.
“Whether you are heading
back from a first date, a crowded concert, or a weekend getaway, Home Safe can offer a close friend or family member peace of mind that you have made it home safely,” Snapchat wrote in a blog
post.

With over 400 million monthly active users, Snap Map is becoming more popular with the company's users base -- especially younger generations.
Over the past year, Snap Map has
begun to grow into an advertising hub, with the launch of Promoted Places.
Earlier this month, Snap announced a partnership with American Eagle that uses the Snap Map to promote the apparel
company's brick-and-mortar stores amid the back-to-school shopping season.
