Wings & Merlot? Bota Box Makes Wine More Football-Friendly

Chicken wings and beer are standard fare at any football tailgate or Super Bowl party. But one boxed wine brand wants consumers to rethink their choice of beverage while gobbling down game-day wings.

Bota Box Wine’s “Wing It with Bota” contest gives the wine’s customers a chance at two tickets to the Super Bowl in February 2026 in San Jose. Beginning Sept. 1 and running through Oct. 31, entrants can submit their original homemade chicken wing recipe online with a selected Bota Box Wine pairing and a written story of the inspiration for their creation.  Submissions are accepted here.

The brand, which specializes in premium 3-liter boxed wine as well as 500-milliliter shatterproof Tetra Paks, will narrow the entrants down to three regional finalists, who will receive an all-expenses-paid trip for themselves plus one to Guy Fieri's Flavortown Tailgate on Feb. 8. Once onsite,  they’ll compete with their recipes will be pitted against one another to select a winner.

"Chicken wings are America's favorite football food … With a wine to complement every style of wings—and a format that's just as shareable and delicious—we’re is ready for football season. We hope our … fans elevate their tailgates…”

The contest serves as the launch pad for the brand’s tailgate campaign, which also includes various activations including recent appearance of the “Bota Box Wing Mobile” at National Buffalo Wing Festival in Buffalo, New York this past Labor Day weekend, where attendees were able to sample various wing recipes along with Bota Box wines.

The brand has also tapped Food Network host and tailgate cookbook author Chef Eddie Jackson (who is also a former NFL player) to create his own original, wine-friendly chicken wing recipes, which can be found at www.botabox.com/football.

Additional activations will take place over the course of the 2005-2026 NFL season.
