Roblox Tests Gameplay Feed, Pays Creators More

To help its millions of active users showcase and share more of their favorite gameplay moments, Roblox is testing a new short-form, TikTok-esque video feed called “Roblox Moments.”

Roblox says that users 13 and older will be able to use Roblox Moments -- which resembles TikTok's scrollable feed -- to capture clips of their in-game experiences, then edit and share them with other players.

Editing options include music capability and a written description. Each clip can be up to 30 seconds long.

Roblox says that users can react to clips shared by other players with emojis, with the added option of entering the experience being featured in a video – a feature that could help promote more creator-made games and worlds.

In addition later this year, the platform has plans to integrate API-based capabilities so creators can build their own in-game discovery systems. This update will directly align with Roblox Moments, allowing creators to highlight trending clips from their own gameplay and promote leaderboards for experience-specific wins.

To attract more creators to its platform, Roblox says it is also increasing its Developer Exchange rate, making it so creators will earn 8.5% more than they convert their in-game currency (Robux) into cash.

According to the company, the average revenue for a Top 1000 developer last year was almost $1 million, which is up almost 3x compared to 2020.
