Paramount Acquires 'The Free Press,' Puts Founder In Charge Of CBS News

It's official -- after months of speculation, Paramount is acquiring conservative-leaning digital news publisher The Free Press, the publication announced in an article bylined by founder and editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, who has also been named editor-in-chief of CBS News.

"This move is a testament to many things: The Free Press team; the vision of Paramount’s new leaders; the luck of starting an independent media company at the right moment; and the courage of my colleagues to leave behind old worlds to build a new one," Weiss reports, crediting the five-year-old publication's email subscribers with its success.

Weiss said she will remain CEO and editor-in-chief of The Free Press, in addition to her new role at CBS News.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
