BBDO NY Salutes Budweiser's American Heritage In Super Bowl 'Icons'

Budweiser is no stranger to the Super Bowl. Its iconic Clydesdales make their 48th appearance at the Big Game on Feb. 8.

The new spot, “American Icons,” aligns the brand’s 150th anniversary with America’s 250th birthday.

The creative is by BBDO New York.

The 60-second spot is directed by Smuggler's Henry-Alex Rubin and airs in both Super Bowl LX and Budweiser’s digital channels.

One of the youngest Clydesdale foals appears in the ad, protective of a baby bird. As the pair grow up, two farmers take note of the remarkable bond, and the grown Clydesdale charges with an American Bald Eagle taking flight behind him. Then Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird” guitar solo swells, and the copy "Made of America" appears over a Budweiser glass, followed by the beer's new Heritage series packaging: "For 150 Years, This Bud's For You." The farmers, one an actual Budweiser barley farmer, share a drink.

Budweiser, an American-style lager, is a product of Anheuser-Busch.

Leading up to the NFL championship, the Budweiser Clydesdales will be making beer deliveries in San Francisco.

Todd Allen, SVP of marketing for Budweiser at Anheuser-Busch, said of the company and country's events, “We knew we had to rise to the occasion in a way only Budweiser can. ‘American Icons’ brings our heritage to life through powerful storytelling. This year’s spot will leave fans awestruck and proud to enjoy a Budweiser as they celebrate our shared milestone moments.”
