Blue Buffalo is launching a social media effort tied to
America’s 250th birthday.
While fireworks have become synonymous with the holiday, Independence Day is also one of the most stressful time of the year for dogs.
To mark America's 1,750th anniversary in dog years, the General Mills pet food brand is debuting the “Dog Friendliest Fireworks Show,” a five-hour video designed specifically
for dogs.
Launching on YouTube, the animated experience replaces loud explosions with calming sounds and features dog-friendly visuals such as treats, toys and food.
The experience was developed with guidance from canine cognitive scientist Dr. Evan MacLean.
The campaign also includes real-time support for pet parents on July 4 via
Blue Buffalo's TikTok and Instagram channels, along with recommendations on helping dogs cope with fireworks anxiety.

Dog owners can build a simple fireworks survival kit with
treats, enrichment toys, water and comfort items, such as an article of clothing worn by the pet parent, so that everything is ready before the fireworks begin.
Pet
parents should not assume that the stress is over once the fireworks end, as many dogs will continue to have signs of anxiety after the event, according to the brand. Instead, the brand recommends
focusing on helping dogs decompress afterwards with plenty of fresh water, a calm and quiet environment, and a return to their normal routine.
