Hyundai Offers Discounted Charging Access

Hyundai Motor America is giving eligible Hyundai EV owners a 10% charging discount on every charging session at Ionna fast-charging stations.

Hyundai is a founding partner in Ionna, the high-speed EV charging network created in 2023 by eight automakers to expand reliable public charging across the U.S.

In addition to the ongoing 10% discount, Ionna is giving owners of eligible Hyundai electric vehicles an additional 10% bonus discount on charging sessions through Sept. 30. Ionna’s stacked bonus discount brings the total charging discount to 20% for a limited time.

Discounts are only applied automatically at Ionna chargers when customers initiate a charging session using Hyundai In-App Charging or Plug & Charge functionality through the MyHyundai with Bluelink app. The ongoing 10% discount can also be combined with other Ionna promotional offers, e.g. limited-time or holiday pricing.

While JD Power research consistently finds that home charging remains one of the most satisfying aspects of the EV ownership experience and many EV owners do the bulk of their charging at home, perceived flaws in the public charging network are still a major deterrent to prospective EV buyers. Public EV charging access remains a major consumer pain point due to persistent unreliability, broken equipment, erratic pricing and geographic patchiness.

“Range anxiety was never really only about the battery. It’s about trust in the system built around it,” said Olabisi Boyle, senior vice president of product planning and mobility strategy, Hyundai Motor North America, in a release.

Ionna, whose name is a play on ion (an atom that has an electrical charge), was founded by BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Stellantis and Toyota.

The company operates about 150 fast-charging locations nationwide across the United States, featuring over 1,100 individual charging ports. It recently announced a strategic partnership with Circle K to expand access to more than 350 sites featuring high-powered EV charging across the United States. Ionna also has deals with Casey’s General Stores, Wawa and Sheetz.

Ionna aims to enable urban and long-distance EV mobility with the goal of 30,000 ultra-fast-and-reliable charging points by 2030.
