I could not believe my ears. “It’s bad when our poo keeps sliding,” the speaker said. Repeatedly. That really is bad, I couldn’t help thinking. But then I wondered how it affected mobile marketing. Well, what the speaker was referring to was RPU sliding (RPU stands for Revenue Per User and is pronounced “our poo”). This negative result permeated the discussion during a panel at OMMA’s mobile conference in NYC this February. The experts debated the value of SMS and short spats of video as the new advertising platform. The crowd of mobile sales, advertising and carrier reps in the crowd coolly received the idea until Roger Wood and the rest of the panel proposed “video snacking” as opposed to full-length — “which could lead to RPU being more solid, with less sliding.” That heavy load really got the audience behind the speaker. Of course, I couldn’t stop giggling.
