Thanks for all of your comments, people! This just in: I passed the baby aisle at Walgreens and two of the stumpy, hippy-sized bottles were invented originally for Dove Baby soap!

thanks, Dean. I realize it's a very non-P.C. mistake, and it will be fixed. Caitlyn is her "parent" and I will leave it at that. I don't have to mention her former life.

Craig McDaniel-- I have zero desire to see Sally May trailer parks in a burger commercial. Just something funny, fresh, that doesn't use the old bikini bull.

Deirdre-- thanks for the comment. I understand your points. I too checked on the year of the birth of the wall ovens. But I'd venture to say that there were precious few in prewar kitchens on the UWS-- those tended to look more like Lucy's kitchen. I guess the size and openness of the kitchen is the equivalent of the apartment the "Friends" lived in. You are right to point out the anachronisms in speech. And i couldn't imagine a woman baring her breasts then, either. But she's supposed to be a different kind of bird-- and got confidence in herself somewhere along the line. As they develop the plot, the challenge is to give her spirit but not the contemporary "you go girl stuff" that has become commonplace 50 years after the beginning of the womens' movement.

Absolutely, Dean. I didn't have room to get into all of them. But Nichols and May were geniuses. The difference is that they worked off each other, and made fun of a certain kind of elevated intellectual. May wasn't facing a drunk, hostile audience alone. There was also Totie Fields, and women before her, too. But they were few and far between before the 1960s.
