• Hyundai's Big Idea: A Big Bang In The Big Game
    Hyundai has been cagey for months about one of its Super Bowl ads, or at least about the actor who stars in it. Where else but the National Automobile Dealers Association conference to reveal the goods, especially if the conference comes right before the Big Game? The spot features Johnny Galecki, one of the stars of the CBS hit prime-time TV show "The Big Bang Theory." He drives a brand new 2014 Elantra, as does an attractive young woman pulls up next to him and he compliments her on their good automotive taste.
  • Victory Focuses On Staff And Experience
    Rodger Olson, COO of the Victory Auto Group, which has 30 dealers around the country, talked about how his company develops sales staff. Speaking at J.D. Power's International Automotive Roundtable, he pointed out that generally speaking, dealership staff is unhappy. "Seventy-seven percent of staff are open to a new job with 70% willing to work for 5% less money if that company had a better reputation."

    Thomas King, senior director of consulting and analytics at J.D. Power talked global industry auto business at J.D. Power's 2014 International Auto Roundtable. He said the industry is healthy. North America was up 7%, noting, " "If we look 2008 to 2011, for anyone trying to succeed it was one shock after another. Fortunately the last couple of years we haven't had those. When you look below the surface you see tremendous volatility, however."

  • The J.D. Power's That Be: NADA Roundtable Features Auto Heavyweights
    The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) conference in New Orleans kicks off today with J.D. Power and Associates' 2014 International Automotive Roundtable. The conference brings in heavy hitters from across the business, starting with Finbarr O'Neill, president of J.D. Power and former chief of Hyundai Motor's American operations. If anyone knows the dealer business it's O'Neill. After his stint at Hyundai, where he introduced the 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty, he took a leadership position at dealership vendor Reynolds & Reynolds.
