ESPN said it will have a branded offering on a new Sprint platform, with content ranging from score updates to live games. Through the Sprint ID service, a user can tee up access to the ESPN cornucopia via a customized home page.

The fledgling Android-based "Sprint ID" service is the teleco's latest attempt to grab share of the booming smartphone market. Available on selected devices, the platform allows for apps, widgets and other content covering various genres, known as a "pack."

The free ESPN offering includes access to "ScoreCenter," which has score updates from hundreds of leagues, and ESPN Mobile TV, which offers live, high-profile events, such as the current Bowl Championship Series.

There is also a VOD offering to view ESPN clips, along with fantasy sports applications, and wallpaper and ringtone options. Ringtones include four versions of the iconic "SportsCenter" theme song and tunes from other ESPN properties, such as the NBA and college football.

Sprint ID subscribers can download multiple branded content "packs." In addition to ESPN, others include offerings from Yahoo and one from MTV focusing on music, as well as genres such as golf, autos, beauty and fashion.
